Prepare for an Exciting Year of Music
As we embark on a new school year I am planning many wonderful musical experience for the students at South Loop School. It is my goal to offer students a general music program that encompasses singing, dancing, playing instruments, music literacy, music theory, and music history. I strive for every student to have an enjoyable and enriched music education.
This year 1st-8th grade students will begin a new curriculum that focuses on the cultures that represent South Loop School. They will discover the musical attributes that make these cultures unique. Students will being to reflect on their musical tastes and preferences and compare and contrast them to people from other cultures.
This new curriculum will require students to be open-minded and ready learn new things. As an final project students will create a culminating project that demonstrates all that they have learned about the cultures they study. These projects will be on display during a concert at the end of the year. Details regarding project requirements will be sent home closer to the time they are due. Parents I ask that you support your child’s music education and talk to them about the various ways your family incorporates music into your daily and annual traditions. It is imperative that we begin to understand and appreciate the differences of all people, their practices, and musical contributions to the world.
Kindergarten students will continue to experience song games, rhythm instruments, dances, and storytelling through music. The children will be immersed in the music; learning new vocabulary, rhythm, rhyming, and musical interpretation as they play and sing music games.
