4th & 5th Grade Recorder Karate
At South Loop Elementary fourth & fifth grade students will continue learning how to play the Baroque soprano recorder; a woodwind instrument from medieval times. Starting the week of September, 30 students will participate in a program called Recorder Karate levels 1 & 2. Students earn belts for their recorder as they learn and play with accuracy new, more difficult songs. Students can practice and earn the belts at their own pace as we learn new notes and techniques on the instrument. Students who do not have a recorder may purchase one from Mrs. Anders for $2. They will be responsible for bringing their recorder and any handouts to every class period. It is IMPERATIVE that they have these materials during EVERY class. Students who are not prepared with these materials will not receive their participation points for that day.
The songs used are taken from Recorder Karate Levels 1 & 2 , published by Plank Road Publishing. Students must download and/or print the Recorder Karate book located at the link below in order to practice these songs. Please see the link BELOW for more information about what your students need to become a black belt in recorder playing. You will need Adobe Reader in order to read the file.
